Current Scope of Practice:

Kenneth Sheets’ practice focuses on defending parties involved in civil litigation. He has successfully represented individuals and businesses in lawsuits involving construction defects, products liability, premises liability, wrongful death, motor vehicle accidents, and commercial vehicle accidents.

Prior to joining Payne & Blanchard in 2008, Kenneth served as a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps. While on active duty, Kenneth had a diverse practice that included consumer protection law, family law, and military justice. In 2007 and 2008, Kenneth deployed to Iraq and served as the Battalion Judge Advocate for Second Reconnaissance Battalion.

  • Representation of national retail chains and other commercial entities in premises liability lawsuits.
  • Defense of suits brought under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act.
  • Litigating and investigating cases involving potential insurance fraud.

Personal:

In 2010, Kenneth was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. For three terms (2011-2017) he represented the communities of East Dallas, South Garland, and Mesquite. During his time in the Texas House, Kenneth served on a number of committees including the Committee on Insurance, the Committee on the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence, and the Committee on Small Business & Economic Development. For his service to the State of Texas, Kenneth has been recognized by several organizations, including the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the Texas Municipal Police Association, Texas Association of Business, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Texas Humane Legislative Network, the Texas Civil Justice League, and Texans for Lawsuit Reform.

Kenneth’s community involvement includes:

  1. Board member with the Woodrow Wilson High School Community Foundation;
  2. Fellow with the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers;
  3. Member of the Lake Highlands Exchange Club;
  4. Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #11937;
  5. Board member of Mesquite Social Services;
  6. Member of the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce; and
  7. Member of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.

Kenneth and his family are parishioners at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish in East Dallas.
